Please update your Tax Information to ensure you receive a 1099.

What is a 1099?

Compensation of $600 USD or more within a calendar/tax year that is paid to United States (U.S.) non-employees must be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The 1099 form is an income statement for this purpose.

Why did I receive an email notification about 1099 filing?

It is important that we collect updated tax information for every recipient for whom we will file a 1099.

If you received a notification encouraging you to review the tax information in your profile, you have contracted with a U.S.-based company and provided an address and/or location in your Worksuite (formerly Shortlist) profile that is in the United States, and/or provided your tax filing country as the United States, or either your address or tax information has not been completed.

If you do not file taxes in the United States, please disregard the notifications.

You can avoid future notifications by completing your profile location, address, and tax information with a country other than United States.

I am a U.S. citizen living abroad. Do I need to file taxes in the U.S.?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen or a resident alien living outside the U.S., your worldwide income is subject to U.S. income tax, regardless of where you live.

Beyond this statement (which is available with additional information on the IRS website), Worksuite is unable to offer tax guidance. Please consult with a tax professional regarding whether and how you will file.

Unless you are certain you will not file U.S. income tax, please ensure your Worksuite profile’s Tax Information is up to date.

I am a non-U.S. citizen receiving compensation from a U.S. company. Do I need to file taxes in the U.S.?

Worksuite is unable to offer tax guidance. That said, non-U.S. citizens are not required to file taxes in the U.S. For any further questions, please consult with a local tax professional regarding whether and how you will file.

What type of 1099 filing do you submit?

We file Form 1099-NEC for all payments.

What are the stages of the process?

  • In mid-November, we request you to review and update as needed the Tax Information in your Worksuite profile.

  • In early December and mid- to late December, we send you an additional reminder and a final notice.

  • No later than January 31, we complete the filings to the IRS in bulk, with a copy sent to the email address associated with your Worksuite profile.

  • Through April 15 (and likely beyond), we support you with any corrected filings that may be required.

Your Tax Information

Do I need to update my Tax Information if I completed a W-9?

Yes! We source the filing information from data fields in your Tax Information rather than parsing PDF documents.

You may optionally use "Generate W-9" from your Tax Information to automatically store a W-9 form in the Documents tab of your profile.

How do I review/update my Tax Information?

Please log in to your Worksuite profile. From your avatar at lower left (either initials or profile photo), navigate to Settings and then Tax Information. A separate Help Center article is here.

Why is the country in my address blank/missing?

We added a new country field on the form to accommodate those who live in a country other than where they file taxes.

Please review the form in its entirety and ensure your information is both accurate and complete.

I had a change of tax entity this year. Will you file multiple 1099s?

Please reach out to so we may support this request.

  • The sum of the Paid invoices in 2021 is $600 USD or more
